Eugene Museum, A Sanctuary for the Soul

A new cultural landmark is set to grace the island of Bali. The Eugene Museum, a permanent showcase of contemporary art, is scheduled to open its doors in 2026. Nicely located amidst lush greenery and the ocean, just a short distance from the iconic Tanah Lot Temple, this innovative museum promises to offer visitors a unique and different experience.
Designed by renowned Indonesian architect Andra Matin, the museum will house a permanent collection of works by Japanese artist Eugene Kangawa. Kangawa's large-scale installations and paintings, which explore themes of love, light, and nature, are renowned for their ability to evoke emotion and inspire contemplation. The museum's architecture is designed to complement the art, creating a harmonious blend of natural and built environments.

Spread over a hectare, the museum will feature over ten galleries showcasing works such as "Golden Rain" and "Infinite Ocean". Visitors can also explore a library, a restaurant, and even overnight accommodations, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the museum's unique atmosphere. The Eugene Museum is more than just an art gallery. It is a place where people from all walks of life can come together to appreciate the beauty of nature and the power of art. The museum's founders hope that it will become a cultural hub, fostering creativity and inspiring future generations.
The decision to establish the museum in Bali was driven by the overwhelming positive response to Kangawa's solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. This exhibition attracted large crowds, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating the global appeal of his work. With its stunning location, world-class art collection, and innovative design, the Eugene Museum in Bali is poised to become one of the most significant cultural attractions in Southeast Asia.
